Traveled up to Hamilton today and picked up my new baby. First time buying from a car yard, cost me $2800.
She's a bit rough round the edges but thats okay. The interior looks quite nanaish but has HEAPS of gimiks, everything is electrical. There is even two dashes which switch between a traditional tacho/speedo layout and a fancy digital version. No idea how it works but its definately pretty swavy!

Most important is under the hood. A 6g74 with shitty auto box. It runs VERY quiet! When driving you can't hear anything till around 4-5k where you can hear a very nice growl. Definately got a bit of power for a n/a.
Hahaha I'm loving it atm lol.

I'm picking up the broken 6g72 for $150 tomorrow that has run a bearing. As soon as it's fixed its going into this car.
I think you guys can guess the plans for the engine in there atm.

Coming from Canada, it's pretty cool to see all the different cars you guys have here. We do have many of the same cars, but for the most part they go by different names. You generally don't tend to see many (if any) Puegot, Alphas, etc. A much smaller variety of Hondas, Toyotas and Mitsubishi. Though Holdens are a GM product, there aren't too many that look anything like the ones you find around NZ & AU.

When I saw the first few pics, I was thinking to myself; what the heck is a GTO enthusiast doing with a car like this... crazy... then I see the engine and it all makes sense. Looks nice. Grats!

The name rocks BTW. Your going to have to bust out the brown leather driving gloves, a fancy hat and walking cane!

Looks very nice!
Quote:
The third model debuted in 1992, longer and wider than its predecessors. The wider range of available engines was now topped by a 260 PS (191 kW; 256 hp) 6G74 3.5 L DOHC V6, and as Mitsubishi's domestic flagship incorporated much of the company's technology, including four-wheel steering, four-wheel anti-lock braking system, electronically controlled suspension, and INVECS automatic transmission with traction control.

Looks just like a galant my brother used to have. I can see a GTO engine slipping right in there!

Haha yeh I was quite lucky to finally come across one. Had been looking for AGES, as well as looking for their engines at car dismantlers. I even sent out a nation wide request to get no replys.
The dealer has only recently dropped the price from 5 grand to 4. When I saw it advertised on the net I offered 3 which he was sweet with. I saw a bit of rust near the boot so I managed to get it down to 2800 which seemed sorta reasonable.

I picked up the broken engine thats going into it yesturday.

The spun big end bearing looks like what I was hoping for.
First image is a relatively good bearing, the second one is quite worn. The third bearing is the one that spun.

Here are the rods big ends, the rod in the first image is fine, the rod in the second one is the rod that its bering spun

Will try and remove the engine from the gto today to remove its crank for this broken engine

The broken engine is going to be fixed and droped into the debonair once the 6g74 is taken out.
Will have for sale the block in the gto though that has been bored out with forged wiseco pistons if anyones interested.
Will put up pics and details in the for sale section in a day or two.

are the stock internals in the 6g74 very strong????
if you ever parted, i'd be keen on the brake booster setup. its in a better place for me then gto's standard position

I think the 6g74 should be equal or a bit stronger than the 6g72..
The 6g72 has 60mm main bearings and 50mm rod bearings while the 6g74 has 64mm main bearings and 58mm rodbearings.
Also has a 4-bolt crank cradle like the 2gen gto engines.

Wont be parting the debonair though sorry.

Alrighty, the debonair is all up and running. Have been using it to get around in for the last few weeks and the car still drives real smooth and you can't really tell is only got a 3L in it now.

Its advertised on trademe at the following link - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 350413.htm

Saying its still a 3.5L although its only a 3L just so you guys know. Choose to do this because I was thinking I would have to get a cert if people know the engines been swapped?? Without reading the code on the block it would be very hard to tell.

Has the crank and near new bearings from the block that i've got for sale on here atm with the Wiseco pistons. I put it together with a new MLS head gasket and new fluids everywhere. Tried painting the boot as it was a dark grey colour when I bought it but the colour is now too light... the fool at the paint store must be colour blind. I gave him my fuel cap for reference as he couldn't cross-reference the colour code stamped on the plate on the firewall. Should have tested the paint first but I couldn't be screwed wasting anymore time going in a getting more paint etc. Looks better than what it was anyway. Not to fussed if it doesn't sell quickly as it's a real nice car to drive arouind in while I get my other cars going.
